Bear Awareness and Avoidance Program

Instructors are certified with the Alberta Safety Council, combined with years of wilderness experience, it’s the only course recognized in the industry. Learn to distinguish different types of bear and understand how mobility and their diets dictate where you will find bears. Learn to understand the distribution and annual cycle of bears. Demonstration of bear prevention equipment and all available bear deterrents on the market (bear bell, bear banger, air horn and bear spray). Information on applicable legislations related to bear deterrents. Important information: How to react to bear sightings and situations with encounters. All candidates will receive a participant workbook and certificate upon successful completion.

The course also includes a comprehensive video and power points on various situations with bears. This course runs for approximately 5 hours.
